Located in the lush Terai region of Uttar Pradesh, near the IndiaโNepal border, Dudhwa National Park is one of Indiaโs most underrated wildlife treasures ๐พ๐ . Known for its vast grasslands, sal forests, and wetlands, Dudhwa offers a raw and immersive safari experience away from the crowds of more commercial reserves.
Part of the larger Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, which includes Kishanpur and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuaries, this landscape supports a rich mix of mammals, birds, and reptiles.
Dudhwa is especially famous for:
-
๐ Bengal Tigers
-
๐ฆ The rare Swamp Deer (Barasingha)
-
๐ Asian Elephants
-
๐ Leopards
-
๐ Marsh Crocodiles & Gharials
-
๐ฆ 450+ bird species
For birders, Dudhwa is a paradise. The Terai wetlands attract hornbills, woodpeckers, owls, storks, kingfishers, and migratory species during winter. The combination of grassland specialists and forest birds makes it one of North Indiaโs richest birding landscapes.
Unlike parks dominated by rocky terrain, Dudhwaโs tall elephant grass and misty forests create a completely different safari mood โ especially during early morning drives when fog rises over wetlands ๐ซ๏ธ.
Because of its remote location and lower tourist density, Dudhwa provides a more intimate, slower-paced wildlife experience โ ideal for serious wildlife observers and photographers seeking authenticity over volume.
