Amboli Herping Special – Monsoon Wildlife Expedition in the Western Ghats
Join us for an unforgettable Amboli Herping Special, a monsoon-season wildlife expedition in the biodiversity-rich rainforests of the Western Ghats. Designed for wildlife enthusiasts, herpetologists, photographers, and nature lovers, this trip explores one of India's most renowned hotspots for amphibians and reptiles.
Located in southern Maharashtra, Amboli transforms into a living rainforest during the monsoon. Mist-covered roads, dripping canopies, and gushing streams provide the perfect habitat for a wide range of herpetofauna, many of which are endemic to the region.
Key species we aim to observe and photograph include the Malabar Gliding Frog, Amboli Bush Frog, Bombay Bush Frog, and Tiger Toads. Reptile sightings often include Green Vine Snakes, Beddome’s Keelback, Cat Snakes, and the elusive Caecilians. Night trails offer thrilling encounters with bioluminescent fungi, slender loris, and nocturnal reptiles.
Our trained experts ensure all sightings are ethical, safe, and conservation-oriented, with a strong focus on habitat respect and minimal disturbance. Whether you’re an amateur naturalist or a seasoned herper, this expedition offers hands-on learning and fantastic photography opportunities.
With misty trails, glowing forests, and croaking symphonies, Amboli’s monsoon season is the ultimate time to witness Herping at its best. Come experience the magic of one of India’s top monsoon wildlife expeditions, tailored for both adventure and education.
Amboli is a hill station in south Maharashtra, India. At an altitude of 690 m it is the last hill station before the coastal highlands of Goa and a relatively unexplored one.
Amboli lies in the Sahyadri Hills of Western India, one of the world's "Eco Hot-Spots" and it therefore abounds in a variety of fairly unusual flora and fauna. However, as in the other parts of the Sahyadri Hills, denudation of the forest cover and unregulated government assisted "development" (read "hotels, resorts & highways") are gradually ruining a once pristine environment.
