Snow Leopard Expedition – Tracking the Ghost of the Himalayas

Track the elusive Snow Leopard ❄️🐆 in Ladakh’s high Himalayas. A thrilling wildlife expedition in Hemis National Park for photographers.

The Snow Leopard Expedition in Ladakh is one of the most thrilling wildlife adventures on Earth ❄️🐆. Often called the “Ghost of the Mountains,” the snow leopard is among the world’s most elusive big cats, inhabiting the remote and rugged landscapes of the high Himalayas.

This expedition takes place in the breathtaking wilderness of Hemis National Park, located in the Ladakh region of northern India. Spanning over 4,400 square kilometers, Hemis is the largest national park in India and one of the best places in the world to track snow leopards in the wild.

Winter expeditions between January and March provide the highest chances of sightings. During this time, prey animals descend into lower valleys and snow leopards follow them, making it easier for expert trackers to locate the cats.

The journey is a true Himalayan wilderness experience where participants trek through dramatic mountain valleys, frozen rivers, and remote villages while searching for wildlife.

Along with the snow leopard, Hemis National Park is home to several rare Himalayan species:

🐆 Snow Leopard
🐺 Himalayan Wolf
🐏 Blue Sheep (Bharal)
🐐 Himalayan Ibex
🦊 Red Fox
🦅 Golden Eagle
🦅 Himalayan Griffon

Wildlife tracking is conducted with the help of experienced local trackers who are highly skilled at spotting animals across the vast mountain landscapes.

Apart from wildlife, the expedition offers stunning views of the Trans-Himalayan mountains, ancient monasteries, and traditional Ladakhi villages, making it an unforgettable adventure.

For wildlife photographers and nature explorers, the Snow Leopard Expedition is considered one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in the world.
