The Fireflies Expedition is one of the most magical seasonal nature experiences in Maharashtra ✨🌿. Every year just before the monsoon arrives, forests across the Western Ghats light up with thousands of glowing fireflies, creating an unforgettable natural spectacle.
This bioluminescent display occurs during the firefly mating season, when male fireflies flash rhythmic signals of light to attract females. When large groups gather in trees and bushes, the landscape begins to glow like twinkling fairy lights in the darkness.
Our Fireflies Expeditions take place at some of the best firefly viewing locations near Mumbai, including Bhandardara, Sandhan Valley, Purushwadi, Prabalmachi, and Wada.
🌄 Bhandardara Fireflies Experience
Bhandardara is one of the most scenic places in the Sahyadri mountains and a popular destination for firefly viewing. Surrounded by hills, forests, and lakes, the region transforms into a glowing wonderland during firefly season.
Thousands of fireflies illuminate the trees around village paths and forest trails, offering an unforgettable nature experience.
⛰ Sandhan Valley Fireflies Experience
Located near Bhandardara, Sandhan Valley—often called the “Valley of Shadows”—offers a dramatic landscape of cliffs and forests where fireflies gather in large numbers.
Evening nature walks through the surrounding forest provide incredible opportunities to witness glowing fireflies under star-filled skies.
🌿 Purushwadi Fireflies Festival
Purushwadi village in Ahmednagar district is one of the most famous places in India for the Fireflies Festival. The surrounding forest and fields host thousands of fireflies, creating one of the most spectacular displays in the country.
Visitors can enjoy village hospitality, local food, and a truly immersive rural nature experience.
🌌 Prabalmachi & Wada Fireflies Experience
Prabalmachi near Panvel and Wada in Palghar district also host impressive firefly populations. These locations offer quieter countryside environments and short forest walks where the glowing insects create a magical nighttime atmosphere.
Because this natural event lasts only a few weeks between late May and early June, these expeditions are highly sought after by nature lovers and photographers.
