It falls under the Sahyadri Sub Cluster of the Western Ghats which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a biodiversity hotspot known for various types of wild flowers which bloom annually in the months of August and September. The plateau is situated at an altitude of 1200 meters and is approximately 1,000 hectares in area. Kaas has more than 850 different species of flowering plants of which 624 are listed on the IUCN Red List. These include orchids, shrubs such as the Karvy, and carnivorous plants such as Drosera Indica.
The name Kaas is said to originate from the kaasa tree (Elaeocarpus glandulosus).
25 Km away from Satara District H.Q. & 20 Km away from Northern part of Koyana Sanctuary. Locally called as 'Kas Pathar' or 'Plateau of Flowers'. The major portion of the plateau is Reserve Forest. Kas plateau is listed under the Protection Working Circle. Kas lake (built 100 years ago) is a perennial source of Water supply for western part of Satara city by gravity. It is a glory of satara forest division.
Out of these 624 sp., 39 sp. are found in Kaas Region only. It Approximates 6% of the Red data species It has become very urgent to take effective measures to protect this whole area in order to conserve the diverse, rare and endangered flora of Kaas plateau. Plateau seems to change the colors after every 15- 20 days as the cycle of flowering plants progresses with the monsoon progress since June to October.

Day 1
Mumbai to Kaas Plateau
Report at Meeting point by 10pm and transfer to Kaas. Reach Resort and rest in the bus.
Day 2
Kaas – Thosegar falls – Mumbai
Enjoy breakfast and visit Kaas plateau. Explore the beauty of this World Heritage site and photograph some of the rare species of flower. Also get information from our guide about the existence and life cycle of these flowers. Return back to hotel for Lunch and in the afternoon half day excursion to Thoseghar falls. Later drive to Mumbai and get dropped by 10pm.
